Human rights sources reported that Ahmad Nasiri, a 36-year-old prisoner in Sepidar Prison, Ahwaz, died on Saturday, 1 Azar 1404 (November 22, 2025) at Khomeini Hospital, Ahwaz.
Nasiri, married with three young daughters and a resident of “Kuy Harsha” on the Kut-Abdollah route, was arrested in Mordad 1404 (August 2025) on charges of “participation in a group altercation” and transferred to Sepidar Prison.
According to family members and fellow inmates, about one week prior to his death, Nasiri’s health deteriorated severely. He reportedly lay unconscious on the prison floor for over three hours while prison officials refused to transfer him immediately to a hospital.
After repeated insistence and the family’s presence at the prison, Nasiri was finally transferred to Khomeini Hospital on Monday, 26 Aban 1404 (November 17, 2025) and admitted to the ICU. However, due to prolonged delays in medical care, he fell into a coma and ultimately passed away on November 22, 2025.
Family members and fellow inmates emphasized that there were no signs of suicide, and that his death was the result of deliberate negligence and denial of timely medical treatment in Sepidar Prison. Initially, prison officials claimed the death was a suicide, a narrative firmly rejected by the family.
Additionally, reports indicate that security agencies pressured the family to refrain from filing formal complaints or pursuing legal action against the prison for medical neglect.
To date, no official response has been issued by the Khuzestan Prisons Organization or the Judiciary regarding this incident.
It is noteworthy that earlier, Amir Nissi, an Ahwazi Arab political prisoner born in 1377 (1998), who had spent six years in wards 5 and 8 of Sheiban Prison, Ahwaz, died on Tuesday, 27 Aban 1404 (November 18, 2025) due to severe internal infection and lack of medical attention.
