Exclusive footage obtained by the Karoon Human Rights Organization shows the moment Aref Naseri, also known as Abu Nayef, an Ahwazi Arab poet and cultural activist, was arrested by forces of the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC Intelligence).
The footage shows two vehicles belonging to security forces at the scene. Plainclothes agents can be seen searching the activist’s home and confiscating and transferring a number of personal belongings and electronic devices into the trunk of one of the vehicles.
As of the time of publication, no clear information is available regarding the precise reasons for Naseri’s arrest, the charges against him, or his whereabouts following his detention. Efforts to obtain information about his condition and well-being are ongoing.
Naseri’s arrest comes amid a new wave of security measures, summonses, and widespread arrests targeting Ahwazi Arab citizens and activists in recent weeks. According to reports, the crackdown has been accompanied by intimidation, threats against families, and the transfer of detainees to solitary confinement, raising serious concerns about the human rights situation in the Ahwaz region.
