Amid increasing security tensions alongside ongoing military confrontations, reports indicate that a young man has been killed in Ahwaz as a result of gunfire by armed forces.
According to local sources, on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, Adel Saki (Asadi), a 23-year-old Ahwazi Arab from the Umm Tameer area of Ahwaz, was shot directly by Basij forces and plainclothes agents at a checkpoint in the Kianpars district, and died at the scene.
The shooting reportedly occurred when he failed to notice the checkpoint while crossing the street. A companion identified by the surname Hawashmi was also injured in the neck and is reported to be in critical condition.
This case comes at a time when, alongside ongoing war conditions and an intensified security environment, the presence of military forces and checkpoints in cities has significantly expanded. Reports indicate an increase in shootings and harsh enforcement measures at such checkpoints.
Previously, during the July 2025 unrest, similar cases were reported, including the killing of Reza Naseri (Hamidavi), a 21-year-old from Abadan, at a checkpoint in that city.
These events continue to raise concerns about rising violence and its impact on civilians.
