According to reports received by Karun Human Rights Organization, on the evening of January 3, 2026, Ismail Khanbaba was shot by forces of the Intelligence Ministry in the Koy-e Modarres neighborhood of Qanitra (Dezful). The shooting was reportedly carried out using a handgun.
Local sources stated that following the shooting, Mr. Khanbaba—who was seriously injured—was placed into the trunk of a white Peugeot 405 by three Intelligence Ministry agents and transferred to an undisclosed location. The same sources reported that at the same time, two other young men from the Koy-e Modarres neighborhood of Dezful were also forcibly abducted by security forces.
As of the time of this report, no official information has been released regarding the physical condition of Ismail Khanbaba, his place of detention, or the whereabouts of the two other individuals. Relevant authorities have so far issued no response regarding the incident.
