Zeynab Hezbapour Transferred to Prison to Serve 15-Year Sentence; Her Daughter Nahid Jamei Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison

Reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization indicate that Zeynab Hezbapour (Hezbeh), the wife of Masoud Jamei, an Arab political prisoner sentenced to death, has been transferred to the women’s ward of Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz to begin serving her sentence issued by the Revolutionary Court.

Hezbapour had previously been convicted in a security-related case on charges of “membership in insurgent groups” and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

In the same case, Nahid Jamei, the 24-year-old daughter of Masoud Jamei, has also been sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to 12 years’ imprisonment. According to available reports, judicial proceedings in both cases were conducted in violation of fair trial standards, including the denial of effective access to legal counsel and the right to an independent defense.

These sentences form part of a broader pattern of security pressure targeting the family of Masoud Jamei (Bavi), an Arab political prisoner from the village of Al-Shakha wa al-Banna. Jamei was recently sentenced by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Ahwaz, presided over by Judge Edeibi-Mehr, to two death sentences on charges of “corruption on earth,” “membership in insurgent groups,” and “assembly and collusion with intent to overthrow the state.” He was additionally sentenced to one year of imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the state.”

These rulings were issued despite Jamei’s critical medical condition. He reportedly suffers from stomach cancer, liver disease, high blood pressure, and severe internal infections. During nearly two years of detention in Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz, he has been denied access to specialized medical treatment, and his health has been described as dire. Human rights sources have expressed growing concern that he may lose his life due to medical neglect before the execution of his sentence.

According to human rights observers, the prosecution and harsh sentencing of Jamei’s wife and daughter reflect a systematic and collective punishment strategy directed at the families of Arab activists and prisoners in Ahwaz. Experts describe this practice as a clear example of systemic human rights violations and the instrumentalization of familial responsibility as a tool of security pressure.
