According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organisation, Iranian security forces have launched a wave of arrests among Ahwazi Arab journalists and media activists following the deterioration of the health condition of Ahmad Baldi, a 21-year-old student who set himself on fire in protest after municipal authorities demolished his family’s food stand.
Sources report that a large crowd has gathered around the hospital where Baldi is being treated, but security forces have surrounded the area, preventing any contact with his family and strictly confronting anyone attempting to take photos or videos.
According to the report, several Ahwazi Arab activists — including Hassan Salamat, Javad Saeedi, and Seyed Sadegh Al-Bushookeh — have been arrested.
Local sources say the reason for these arrests is the media coverage of Ahmad Baldi’s case and the public attention drawn to his family’s suffering after losing their only source of income.
Reports indicate that Ahmad Baldi’s condition remains critical, while official authorities have remained silent, and a heavy security presence continues around both the hospital and his family’s home.
