According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization, on Friday, 23 Aban 1404 (14 November 2025), intelligence units of the IRGC violently arrested Abd al-Aziz Naami, a 35-year-old Arab Sunni resident of Malashiyeh, Ahwaz, and transferred him to an unknown location without providing any official explanation.
Naami is married and the father of three children.
Over the past ten months, security forces of the Islamic Republic have launched a widespread campaign of targeted arrests against Sunni citizens in the Ahwaz region. During this crackdown, dozens of individuals have been detained on security- and religion-related accusations — allegations that families and those later released describe as baseless and purely faith-motivated.
One Sunni citizen who was arrested earlier this year and later released on bail described his experience:
“The accusations they bring against us are far from reality. Just because we are Arab and have converted from Shi’a to Sunni Islam, they call us apostates and accuse us of belonging to takfiri groups or promoting Salafism and Wahhabism.”
This former detainee added:
“During interrogation, they treat us in the worst ways. The security forces of Khamenei’s government even interfere in our relationship with God; the way we pray or our personal beliefs can be turned into heavy charges and long prison sentences.”
