According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization, Saman and Davood Hormatnejad, two political prisoners from Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, were summoned on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 18, 2025, to Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz to begin serving their sentences of 15 years and 12 years, respectively, following the finalization of their heavy prison terms.
Previously, Saman Hormatnejad had been released on bail set at 10 billion tomans, and his brother Davood Hormatnejad on bail of 8 billion tomans, on Wednesday, September 23, 2025. Their release had continued until the Supreme Court issued the final verdict.
These two political prisoners were tried alongside several other defendants in a joint case. In the same case, the Revolutionary Court of Ahwaz, presided over by Judge Ehsan Edibi Mehr, had previously sentenced three other political prisoners—Farshad Etemadifar (from Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad), Masoud Jamei, and Alireza Mardasi (Hamidavi), two Arab citizens from Ahwaz—to double execution and one year imprisonment.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the Supreme Court of Iran upheld the sentences of Masoud Jamei and Alireza Mardasi (Hamidavi), two Arab citizens from Ahwaz, and Farshad Etemadifar from Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad. The rulings were communicated to the defendants through their lawyers and the Sanad judicial notification system.
The charges against these individuals include “corruption on earth (efsad fel-arz), membership in groups opposed to the Islamic Republic, propaganda against the regime, and conspiracy”. However, their trial process was marked by serious violations of fair trial principles, including denial of access to independent legal counsel, security pressures, and coerced confessions.
It is notable that all five political prisoners in this case were arrested in 2023.
