Human rights organizations reported on Thursday, 16 April 2026, the suspicious death of Abbas Yavari, an Ahwazi Arab detainee.
According to a report by the Human Rights Organization of Iran, the detainee, who had been held in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz in connection with the protests of December 2025, died after being transferred to an undisclosed detention facility for interrogation on 26 March 2026. His family was informed of his death three days later.
Prison authorities have stated that the cause of death was “suicide,” a claim that has been met with serious doubt by informed sources.
The Karun Human Rights Organization has condemned the incident and called for an immediate, transparent, and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding this detainee’s death, as well as accountability for those responsible.
