According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization, Seyed Mohammad Mousavi, an Arab Ahwazi political prisoner currently held in Ward 5 of Ahwaz Central Prison (Sheiban Prison), was sentenced to death on Saturday, January 3, by the Khormakoushak Court of Ahwaz.
Mousavi, a resident of Falahieh (Shadegan), was convicted on charges of “direct involvement in murder” in connection with the killing of Colonel Abdolhossein Majdami, the Basij commander of Darkhovein.
In the same case, Adi Manyaat, who is detained in Abadan Prison, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on charges of “aiding and abetting murder”. Amer Machasbeh, an Ahwazi prisoner from Mohammerah (Khorramshahr) currently held in Sheiban Prison, Ahwaz, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Additionally, more than ten other defendants in this case were each sentenced to three years of imprisonment.
Colonel Abdolhossein Majdami, the Basij commander of Darkhovein, was killed in an armed attack by unidentified individuals outside his residence in the early hours of January 22, 2020. According to local sources, he was reportedly a close associate of Qassem Soleimani and played an active role in the arrest of a large number of women in the region on allegations of links with foreign entities—actions that reportedly generated widespread anger and resentment among local residents.
