Several Ahwazi Arab Activists Arrested Amid Nationwide Protests in January 2026

According to reports from human rights activists in Ahwaz, during widespread arrests carried out by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran in connection with the nationwide protests of January 2026 and their aftermath, two brothers—Rasoul Jalizi (30 years old) and Majed Jalizi (38 years old)—from Alavi Neighborhood (Hay al-Thawra), Ahwaz, were arrested.

These two Ahwazi Arab citizens had previously been arrested and imprisoned multiple times due to their involvement in civil and collective activities. As of now, no information has been released regarding the charges against them or their place of detention.

In the same wave of arrests, Hossein Hardani (30 years old, married), also from Alavi Neighborhood (Hay al-Thawra), Ahwaz, was detained. He had previously been arrested for his role in community-based flood relief committees and had served his sentence in Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz.

During the January 2026 protests, a significant number of citizens—particularly Arab activists—were arrested in Ahwaz and other cities.
