According to reports received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization, Hassan Salemi, an Ahwazi Arab civil activist, was released last week after serving a one-year sentence in Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz.
According to the report, Salemi, a resident of Fallahieh (Shadegan), was arrested by the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC Intelligence) because of his activities on social media. He was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime.”
Reports received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization indicate that Hassan Salemi’s family members and friends were repeatedly summoned and threatened by IRGC Intelligence forces during and after his detention.
According to an informed source who spoke to the Karoon Human Rights Organization, Salemi was subjected to severe psychological and physical pressure and torture while detained at an IRGC Intelligence detention facility.
Hassan Salemi, 30, son of Khalil, resides in the Aboudi area of Fallahieh (Shadegan). He had previously spent three months in Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz on charges of “propaganda against the regime.”
