New Security Case Filed Against Eight Prisoners in Sheiban Prison, Ahwaz

According to reports received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization from Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz, eight prisoners held at the facility, including one political prisoner, have been subjected to a new case and formally charged with security-related offenses.

The arraignment session for the eight prisoners was held via videoconference on Sunday, September 5, 2026 , by Branch Three of the Preliminary Investigation Court, presided over by an investigating judge identified as “Shirali.”

During the judicial hearing, the eight prisoners were charged with offenses including “causing riots and unrest,” “chanting political slogans,” and other “offenses related to national security.”

The identities of the prisoners charged in the case have been established as follows:

  • Hamidreza Dorostkar (political prisoner)
  • Rasoul Attar Pari
  • Pejman Gholizadeh
  • Mohammad Mehri
  • Siavash Tayebi
  • Mohammad Lashkari
  • Mohammad Shahbazi
  • Abuzar Shahrouei

The seven other defendants in the case are prisoners serving sentences for ordinary criminal offenses who are now facing political and security-related charges.

The basis for the new case reportedly relates to events said to have taken place at Behbahan Prison on April 4, 2026.

As of the time of publication, no further precise information is available regarding the details of the case, the evidence presented against the defendants, their access to legal counsel, or the date of the next hearing.

The imposition of political and security-related charges on ordinary prisoners is among the concerning judicial practices that can be used to exert additional pressure on prisoners.

The Karoon Human Rights Organization calls for transparency regarding this case, respect for the defendants’ legal rights, access to legal counsel, and their right to a fair trial.
