According to a report received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization, Moj Eisa (Hossein) Marmadhi, 36, married and father of two children, along with his brother Hassan Marmadhi, residents of Majd District (Kanteks) in Ahwaz, were arrested by Ahwaz Intelligence Department forces on Friday, July 10, 2026 (19 Tir 1405) and transferred to an undisclosed location.
According to information published by the Moj Ahwaz Telegram channel, security forces raided the Marmadhi family’s home in the early hours of Friday. After conducting an extensive search of the house and creating fear and distress among family members, the forces arrested the two brothers.
Moj Eisa Marmadhi and his brother Hassan are Arab citizens of Ahwaz and cultural and religious activists in the area. The two brothers have a traditional Arab madheef and have been involved in organizing and participating in cultural activities.
A madheef is a traditional Arab guesthouse or communal meeting hall and is considered an important part of the cultural and social heritage of Arab communities. Despite the cultural significance of these places, Arab cultural activists who establish madheefs to organize cultural activities have faced security pressure on various occasions.
A relative of Eisa Marmadhi stated that, because of his cultural activities and ownership of a traditional madheef, he is regarded as one of the Sunni activists in Majd District, along the route toward Kut Abdullah in Ahwaz, and is respected by local residents.
As of the publication of this report, no precise information is available regarding the possible charges against the two brothers, their place of detention, or their legal status.
The Karoon Human Rights Organization condemns the arrest of Moj Eisa Marmadhi and Hassan Marmadhi and emphasizes that peaceful cultural and religious activities are fundamental rights of citizens. The organization calls for the immediate disclosure of their place of detention and the charges against them, access to their families and legal counsel, and the immediate release of the two cultural and religious activists.
