According to reports received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization, Yousef Sadehnejad (Maiiahi), an Arab Ahwazi poet and civil rights activist, has been transferred to Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz after being arrested and held at the Ahwaz Intelligence Department.
According to these reports, Yousef Sadehnejad had previously been released from Sheiban Prison on bail and travelled to Tehran for work. He was subsequently arrested by security forces in Tehran and transferred to the Ahwaz Intelligence Department. After being held by this security agency for a period of time, he was transferred to Sheiban Prison.
The Karoon Human Rights Organization had previously reported, in April 2025, on the legal uncertainty surrounding this citizen’s case while he was being held at Central Prison of Ahwaz (Sheiban).
Yousef Sadehnejad, a native of Raghiveh village in Ramz County (Ramhormoz), was arrested on 30 December 2023 by agents of the Ahwaz Ministry of Intelligence.
According to previous reports, Judge Azarnoosh of Branch 13 of the Preliminary Investigation Court charged him with offences including “membership in groups opposed to the Islamic Republic,” “propaganda against the state,” and “disrupting national security.”
However, no precise information is currently available regarding any new charges that may have been brought against him following his re-arrest.
The Karoon Human Rights Organization expresses serious concern over the situation of Yousef Sadehnejad Maiiahi and the handling of his case. It condemns the continued detention and legal uncertainty faced by the poet and civil rights activist and calls for immediate clarification of his legal status, unrestricted access to legal counsel and family members, and full respect for his legal and human rights.
The organization also calls on the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran to end the detention and persecution of Arab citizens on the basis of their civil and cultural activities and to take immediate steps to secure the release of Yousef Sadehnejad.
