According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization, intelligence forces in Hamidiyeh arrested seven Sunni Arab citizens on the evening of Tuesday, 7 July 2026 , while they were performing evening prayers.
According to the information received, the security forces detained the men during the Isha prayer. So far, the identities of two of the detainees have been confirmed by the Karun Human Rights Organization: Amer Kaabi, and Riyadh Zuhairi, both residents of the Malashiyeh district of Ahwaz.
At the time of publication, the families of the detainees had received no information regarding their whereabouts or condition, and the security authorities have provided no official response.
These arrests come after the Karun Human Rights Organization previously reported the arrest of at least 18 Sunni Arab citizens in the Kut Abdullah district of Ahwaz on the same day. According to the organization, Iranian security forces used violence and physical assault during the arrests, with most of those detained being young people and children under the age of 18 from the Khazami neighbourhood.
The Karun Human Rights Organization expresses deep concern over the continuing wave of arrests and the violent treatment of Sunni Arab citizens, describing these actions as a clear violation of fundamental human rights, including the rights to liberty, personal security, and protection from cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment.
The organization strongly condemns these violent arrests and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees, an end to the ongoing campaign of repression against Arab citizens in the Ahwaz Region, independent investigations into the conduct of the security forces, and accountability for those responsible.
