Return of “Yahya Nasseri” to Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz Before Completion of Medical Treatment

According to reports received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization, “Yahya Nasseri”, an Ahwazi Arab political prisoner serving a life sentence, has been returned to Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz before completing his prescribed medical treatment. He had previously been granted medical leave on 10 April 2026 to undergo treatment at a hospital outside the prison.

Nasseri, who has spent 19 years in prison serving his life sentence, was granted a temporary medical furlough after posting bail of 10 billion tomans (approximately 17,000 USD) to undergo hernia surgery. However, he was returned to Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison on Saturday, 3 June 2026, before his course of treatment had been completed.

The political prisoner has suffered for years from hemorrhoids and related health complications. During his imprisonment, he has reportedly been denied adequate access to appropriate medical care, contributing to the deterioration of his condition. According to sources close to his family, his health worsened significantly in recent weeks, creating an urgent need for specialized treatment.

His medical furlough was granted following repeated requests from his family for proper medical care. Nevertheless, his treatment was interrupted before it could be completed, and he was transferred back to prison.

Reports indicate that political prisoners in Ahwaz continue to face serious restrictions in accessing adequate medical and healthcare services, an issue that has repeatedly been criticized by human rights organizations. These organizations have called on the Iranian authorities to improve medical care for prisoners and uphold their fundamental rights.
