Reports published by Iranian state media indicate the death of five individuals in the Ahwaz region (Khuzestan) during a security operation. The individuals were described by authorities as “separatist terrorists.”
According to these reports, special police forces used technical surveillance and drones to locate the group in a reed-covered area in one of the counties of the region. The individuals were subsequently killed during an exchange of fire.
However, human rights organizations have repeatedly raised concerns over the lack of transparency in such cases and the absence of independently verifiable information. In many instances, security-related accusations such as “terrorism” or “separatism” are made without sufficient evidence, and independent investigation into the circumstances of deaths is not possible.
Concerns also include a recurring pattern of lethal force used by security agencies and the lack of accountability for violations of the right to life. The Karoon Human Rights Organization emphasizes that the Islamic Republic of Iran is obliged to uphold its human rights commitments, including the right to life and fair trial guarantees, and to conduct transparent and independent investigations into such incidents.
