Arrest of Six Individuals in the Ahwaz Region on Charges of “Links with Foreign Entities”

Iranian state media have reported that the Intelligence Department in the Ahwaz region (Khuzestan Province) has announced the arrest of six individuals on charges of “armed activity.”

Security authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran claim that the detainees were in contact with “foreign enemies.”

These arrests come at a time when the Iranian authorities have imposed widespread internet disruptions in the Ahwaz region and across the country, restricting the flow of information and preventing the dissemination of images, videos, and on-the-ground reports related to ongoing developments.

Human rights activists state that the accusations are unjust and fabricated. According to these sources, a common pattern in such cases includes arbitrary arrests, the use of severe physical and psychological torture to extract forced confessions, and the construction of legal cases based on those coerced statements.

Reports by human rights organizations have previously raised concerns about arbitrary arrests, lack of due process, and the risk of torture and ill-treatment of detainees in similar cases in the Ahwaz region
