Heavy Clashes Between Protesters and Security Forces Near Ahwaz Intelligence Office

On the evening of Friday, January 9, 2026, reports from Ahwaz indicate intense clashes and continuous gunfire in the Golestan district of the city, located approximately 500 meters from the Islamic Republic Intelligence Office.

According to these reports, simultaneous protests have erupted across multiple areas of Ahwaz, including Zeytun Karmandi, the central market, and several other neighborhoods, with gunfire audible in different parts of the city. Local sources have reported that a number of protesters were arrested by security forces.

Amid escalating unrest, the Islamic Republic has reportedly taken measures to control the situation and disrupt communications, including a complete shutdown of landline phones, mobile internet, and ATMs. Banking applications on mobile devices have also reportedly become inoperative.

These actions reflect the regime’s fear of the protests spreading and the potential ignition of a nationwide uprising. As of the time of this report, no further details regarding possible casualties or the status of the arrested individuals have been released.
