“Nazem Bereihi” Transferred from Solitary Confinement to Quarantine Ward on Eighth Day of Hunger Strike

According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization, Nazem Bereihi, an Arab political prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment, was transferred on Friday, December 19, 2025, the eighth day of his hunger strike, from solitary confinement to the quarantine ward of Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz. The transfer reportedly followed tensions with security authorities and was carried out through the mediation of Khosrow Tarfi, the head of Sheiban Prison.

According to informed sources, the Ahwazi Arab political prisoner continues his “wet hunger strike” on its eighth day.

This transfer took place despite efforts by security authorities and Neda Farajpour, head of Branch 8 of the Ahwaz Judiciary’s Sentence Enforcement Office, to keep Bereihi in solitary confinement alongside prisoners classified as dangerous and to exert pressure on him to end his hunger strike.

Ms. Farajpour, known among prisoners as “the oppressor,” along with security officials, reportedly applies continuous pressure on political and ideological prisoners held in Wards 5 and 8. These authorities are accused of systematically violating prisoners’ legal rights through threats and coercion, including denying access to medical and regular leave.

Karun had previously reported that on Wednesday, security officials again attempted to pressure Nazem Bereihi into ending his hunger strike, but these efforts were unsuccessful. In response, Bereihi demanded direct dialogue with the security authorities responsible for his case.

It should be noted that last Saturday, security forces entered Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison and assaulted Nazem Bereihi following his resistance to being transferred to solitary confinement. After beating him, officers reportedly bound his hands and feet and forcibly removed him from the ward, transferring him to solitary confinement.

Karun Human Rights Organization has strongly condemned the assault and the forced transfer of Nazem Bereihi to solitary confinement, describing these actions as torture and inhuman and degrading treatment. The organization has called for the immediate end to his solitary confinement, unrestricted access to independent medical care, and accountability of the responsible security and judicial authorities.
