Reports from the Karun Human Rights Organization indicate that Hossein Sahagi, an Ahwazi Arab political prisoner held in Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz, was returned to prison before completing treatment after enduring severe psychological and mental pressure in the FATA detention center and spending a period in the Ahwaz psychiatric hospital.
According to the report, after being hospitalized for a week, he was transferred back to prison while his mental and psychological condition had worsened to the point of near insanity. Nevertheless, security, judicial, and prison officials have still refused to grant him medical leave.
Sahagi, who due to severe mental distress refuses to eat, drink, sleep, or even speak, has been subjected to humiliating behavior by prison officials. Khosro Torfi the head of Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz mockingly told him: “If this were the 2000s, I would let you sing and talk.” Meanwhile, reports assess that the risk to his life is extremely high.
Hossein Sahagi was arrested over a year ago by the FATA police along with Jasem Loueimi, another Arab political prisoner, and has since been held in Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison. Since his return from the Ministry of Intelligence, he has been suffering from serious psychological problems, yet security and judicial officials have not only failed to address his condition but also accused him of lying and deprived him of his right to medical leave.
After Sahagi’s condition deteriorated, he came under the supervision of the prison doctor, Fuad Mazraeh. However, due to a lack of medical facilities and denial of specialized care, his psychological state worsened, eventually leading to a one-week hospitalization in the Ahwaz psychiatric center.
Reports further indicate that many political prisoners in Sheiban Prison suffer from a shortage of facilities and medical services, while security and judicial authorities consistently oppose granting them medical leave, even though many of these Arab prisoners face heavy sentences and long-term imprisonment.
