According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization, Seyed Mostafa Khorsand, a resident of Abadan, who had participated in the recent public protests in the city on Wednesday, January 7, was arrested by security forces at his workplace at the Abadan Power Plant.
Informed sources stated that the arrest was carried out without the presentation of a judicial warrant, and no information has so far been released regarding the arresting authority, his place of detention, or his legal status. Khorsand is married and is the father of a child with autism, a circumstance that has significantly heightened his family’s concern regarding both his welfare and their livelihood.
Meanwhile, knowledgeable sources have reported that at least seven civilians were injured as a result of confrontations with security forces during the recent protests in Abadan. Due to the intense security atmosphere in the city and fears of arrest, the injured individuals have reportedly avoided seeking medical treatment at hospitals and were instead forced to treat their injuries at home.
Human rights activists have expressed serious concern over the continued arrests and violent suppression of protesters in Abadan, calling for immediate transparency regarding the fate of detainees and guarantees for the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights.
Previously, Ms. Mirzaei Khorramabadi, a young woman who participated in Wednesday’s protests in Abadan, was severely injured in the eye after being shot by forces of the Islamic Republic’s Special Unit. She was transferred to a hospital for treatment, and reports indicate that her physical condition remains critical.
