According to reports by the Karun Human Rights Organization, Khosro Torfi, the warden of Ahwaz Central (Sheiban) Prison, has banned prisoners from in-person visits with their families for more than two months.
A relative of one of the prisoners told the organization on Tuesday, 30 September, that no clear reason has been given for this ban, and many inmates, including his brother, have been deprived of seeing and embracing their children.
He added that the ban has placed immense psychological pressure on prisoners, leading to heightened anxiety, longing, and a deep sense of loneliness.
The source, himself a former inmate of Sheiban Prison, also stated that Torfi—already known for mistreating prisoners—has so far managed the prison in a way that his decisions often work against the inmates’ interests.
The Karun Human Rights Organization, stressing the importance of prisoners’ human rights, has called for an immediate end to this ban and the reinstatement of in-person visitation rights for all prisoners.
