The news outlet Rokna reported that a 16-year-old girl from Fallahiyeh (Shadegan), named Fatemeh, was killed by her uncle, allegedly over “honor-related issues.”
According to the report, the victim’s body was discovered on Sunday, September 6, 2025, at a garbage dump on the outskirts of Abadan and was transferred to the forensic medical center for examination.
Rokna wrote that the killing was carried out with the knowledge and permission of the girl’s father, by slitting her throat. The victim’s father also stated that he would not be filing any complaint against his brother.
The accused confessed to committing the murder, was arrested, and investigations into the case are still ongoing.
In recent years, so-called “honor killings” in Iran have been on a worrying rise. Numerous reports show that the victims are often young girls and women who lose their lives due to restrictions rooted in traditional, cultural, and family pressures.
Women’s rights and social activists have repeatedly warned about the lack of deterrent laws and the lenient judicial treatment of perpetrators of such killings. According to experts, the persistence of these incidents not only highlights the weakness of legal and protective measures for women but also underscores the urgent need for legal reforms and cultural change within society.
