The Karoon Human Rights Organization has expressed serious concern after all of its official Instagram pages in Persian, Arabic, and English were suddenly blocked without prior warning or any clear explanation.
According to the organization, this action occurred as a result of coordinated and organized mass-reporting attacks carried out by entities and actors affiliated with the Iranian regime. The attacks appear to be part of a targeted effort to prevent the dissemination of information and documentation regarding human rights violations, the suppression of civil activists, and the concealment of realities on the ground.
Over the past years, the Instagram pages of the Karoon Human Rights Organization have played a significant role in reporting on arbitrary arrests, death sentences, the situation of political prisoners, widespread violations of ethnic minority rights—particularly those of the Arab people of Ahwaz—, the suppression of protests, and ongoing security pressures. The blocking of these pages constitutes a clear violation of freedom of expression and the right to access information.
The Karoon Human Rights Organization considers this action a clear example of transnational digital repression and holds Meta and the management of Instagram responsible for removing the pages of an independent human rights organization without properly reviewing the human rights nature of the content and the malicious reporting campaigns behind it.
The organization calls for the immediate and full restoration of all blocked pages, a transparent investigation into coordinated reporting attacks, and the adoption of protective mechanisms to safeguard the accounts of human rights organizations.
The Karoon Human Rights Organization emphasizes that silencing independent voices will not stop the truth from being reported, and that it will continue its human rights work through other platforms and communication channels.
