According to the Iran Human Rights Organisation, on the morning of Monday, October 20, the death sentence of Sajjad Shokri was carried out in Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz. He had been sentenced to qisas (retribution in kind) by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of murder.
A source familiar with the case told Iran Human Rights: “Sajjad Shokri, a resident of Ahwaz, was arrested about four years ago on charges of murder and was later sentenced to qisas following his trial.”
According to the annual report of the Iran Human Rights Organisation, in 2024, at least 419 people were executed in connection with murder charges under qisas laws. The corresponding numbers were 282 in 2023, 288 in 2022, and 183 in 2021. The year 2024 marks the highest number of qisas executions since 2010.
