Human rights activists reported that on the morning of Sunday, August 31, 2025, the death sentence of Ammar Hosseini, a 27-year-old Ahwazi Arab man from Ahwaz, was carried out in Sepidar Prison. He had been arrested three years earlier on charges of murder and was subsequently sentenced to qisas (retribution in kind) by the court.
They also emphasized that Hosseini’s execution had not been confirmed by any official media outlet or authority of the Islamic regime at the time the news was published.
According to reports from human rights organizations, since the beginning of 2025 until the end of August, at least 841 people have been executed in Iran, 46 percent of whom faced drug-related charges.
