According to human rights reports, a prisoner sentenced to death was executed at dawn on Tuesday at Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz. The individual had previously been arrested in connection with a murder case and, following judicial proceedings, was sentenced to capital punishment.
The identity of the executed prisoner has been confirmed as Safarali Sadeghi, according to the human rights organization HRANA. Mr. Sadeghi was transferred to the gallows early this morning, and the death sentence was carried out.
As of the time of this report, the execution has not been officially announced by authorities at Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz or by other relevant state institutions.
According to the annual statistical report of the Statistics, Publications, and Documentation Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI), at least 1,537 executions were carried out in Iranian prisons between October 10, 2024, and October 8, 2025. This figure represents the highest number of executions recorded in the past decade and reflects a significant upward trend in the use of the death penalty. Compared to the previous year, during which 823 executions were recorded, the number has increased by more than 86.07 percent, and it also exceeds the ten-year annual average by a substantial margin. A considerable proportion of these executions were related to drug-related offenses.
