According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization, Amanollah Jalali-Nejad, a political prisoner held in Ward 5 of Sheyban Prison in Ahwaz, is facing severe health problems. His leg is swollen from the ankle to the knee and has turned red and black. In recent months, he has been injected with painkillers to reduce the pain so that he can sleep at night.
Last week, Jalali-Nejad was transferred to a hospital where an MRI was performed on his leg. Nevertheless, he is still in urgent need of medical furlough, but security authorities are preventing him from receiving this right.
Amanollah Jalali-Nejad, was arrested by security forces on April 8, 2024, in Ahwaz city and was initially taken to a security detention center.
During this period, he has been denied access to a lawyer. Despite having signed a legal representation contract, he has not been allowed to meet his lawyer. This has caused the legal process of sending his case to court to be halted. The extension of his detention without fully informing him of the charges is unlawful and contrary to the country’s criminal code. According to the law, judicial authorities are obliged to inform the accused and their family of the reasons for issuing or extending a detention order.
Amanollah is 35 years old, was born in Zahedan, and is originally from Birjand. He is a teacher and painter employed by the Khuzestan Province Department of Education and resides in Ahwaz.
