According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organisation, Aziz Abayat, a 56-year-old Arab citizen, died on Friday, November 7, in Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz.
According to the report, Abayat, who had been arrested about two years ago on charges of killing his daughter-in-law’s father, Abdolzahra Sayahi, was informed of his death sentence by prison authorities on Friday.
Sources told the Karun Human Rights Organisation that after learning about the verdict, Abayat suffered a heart attack and died inside the prison.
Family members and relatives of the prisoner have reportedly stated that he suffered from heart disease, and the psychological shock caused by the announcement of the death sentence led to his sudden death.
