Arrest of “Hassan Batrani”, an Ahwazi Arab Citizen, by Security Forces

According to reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization, “Hassan Batrani”, a 32-year-old Ahwazi Arab citizen and resident of Alavi neighborhood (Hay al-Thawra) in the city of Ahwaz, was arrested on Thursday, February 19, 2026 (30 Bahman 1404), by agents of the Ahwaz Intelligence Department.

According to the report, Hassan Batrani was arrested suddenly on the street. As a result, his family has so far received no information regarding the reasons for his arrest or his place of detention, raising serious concerns about his physical condition and legal status.

Hassan Batrani had previously been arrested multiple times due to his participation in popular protests. In December 2017 and March 2019, he and his brother, Bassem Batrani, were arrested on charges of “acting against national security” and “communication with opposition groups,” and were imprisoned for more than 30 months in Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz.

According to available testimonies, Hassan and Bassem Batrani were subjected to severe physical torture during their previous detention at the Abolfazl al-Abbas IRGC Security Base (affiliated with the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps). As a result of this torture, Bassem Batrani was left paralyzed.

In addition, another brother of the family, Ali Batrani, was killed during the 2005 Ahwaz protests, commonly referred to as the “2005 Intifada.”
