Arrest of a Sunni Arab Citizen in Ahwaz by Intelligence Forces

According to reports received from human rights activists in Ahwaz, Milad Heydari, a 27-year-old married man, was arrested on Thursday, 13 August 2026 by agents of the Intelligence Department at his home in the Mosh’ali neighborhood of Ahwaz.

Heydari is an Arab citizen of Ahwaz who had converted to Sunni Islam. No information is currently available regarding the reason for his arrest, any possible charges against him, or his place of detention.

According to local reports, dozens of Sunni citizens in Ahwaz have been summoned or arrested since Eid al-Fitr. This pattern of summonses and arrests reportedly continued even during the 12-day and 40-day wars between the United States and Iran.

The Karoon Human Rights Organization condemns the arrest of Milad Heydari and the continued summonses and arrests of Sunni Arab citizens in Ahwaz. The organization calls for the immediate disclosure of his place of detention, the charges against him, and his legal status, as well as those of other detainees.
