Human rights activists reported that a young Ahwazi Arab man in Fallahiyeh (Shadegan), named Mohammad Gharavi (Shavardi), set himself on fire and died due to economic and political pressures, as well as the efforts of Hashem Khanfari, a member of parliament, to have him dismissed from his job.
While struggling for his life in the hospital, Mr. Gharavi released a video in which he asked people to take care of his children after his death. The death of this young man sparked a wave of criticism against Khanfari and his wife, who have been accused of abusing power, eliminating opponents, and appointing unqualified individuals, including in the Ministry of Health. Like other officials, Khanfari has also been accused of neglecting the fundamental problems of Fallahiyeh, failing to fulfill campaign promises, and focusing on personal interests.
In response to Mohammad Gharavi’s death, Hashem Khanfari issued a statement describing the country’s situation as unstable and urged people not to let the incident be used to undermine security. He attempted to shift responsibility onto the general conditions of the country, but this stance was widely criticized, with many considering it an attempt to evade accountability.
Meanwhile, the city of Fallahiyeh continues to struggle with mismanagement, economic crises, and political conflicts.
