According to reports received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization, Hossein Al-Boushoka, an Ahwazi Arab civil rights activist from Fallahieh (Ramshir), who was arrested by security forces more than four months ago, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic” and “acting against national security.”
Hossein Al-Boushoka, is married and has two children. Prior to his arrest, he was active on social media. According to information received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization, he was arrested by security forces during the 12-day war between Iran, Israel, and the United States because of his social media activities.
Following his arrest, Al-Boushoka was transferred to Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz, where he is currently being held in Ward 5. He spent approximately four months in pretrial detention before the sentence was issued.
Sources previously told the Karoon Human Rights Organization that during his detention in solitary confinement, the civil rights activist was subjected to physical and psychological pressure and torture.
The 11-year prison sentence against Hossein Al-Boushoka was issued while his social media activities have been cited as the basis for his arrest and the judicial case brought against him.
The Karoon Human Rights Organization condemns the imposition of this lengthy prison sentence on Hossein Al-Boushoka and the security and judicial measures taken against him. The organization calls for the sentence to be overturned, his legal rights to be respected, access to legal counsel to be ensured, and the allegations of torture and mistreatment during his detention to be urgently investigated.
