Ahwaz Streets Blocked with Concrete Barriers; Teachers Detained in Mohammerah

Reports received by Karun Human Rights Organization indicate that on the evening of Monday, January 12, 2026, coinciding with the beginning of public protests in Ahwaz, the city witnessed a significant and heavy presence of security forces. Security personnel placed concrete barriers to block main streets, including Naderi Street, 24-Metri Street, Abdulhamid Bazaar, and several other areas, in an effort to restrict the movement of protesters. This action coincided with the start of demonstrations and severely limited citizens’ freedom of movement.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that protests continue in Ahwaz and other regions of the Ahwaz region, with people taking to the streets to voice their demands.

At the same time, local sources report the detention of a number of male and female teachers in Mohammerah (Khorramshahr). Mass arrests in other cities, including Ahwaz, Abadan, and Ma’shour (Mahshahr), are reported to be ongoing.
