Abadan Police Commander Confirms Arrest of 20 Protesters

According to reports received by Karun Human Rights Organization, amid the ongoing nationwide protests in various cities across Iran, the commander of the Abadan (Abadan) police announced the arrest of more than 20 citizens participating in demonstrations in the city, without providing any details regarding the charges or legal status of the detainees.

At the same time, the Fars news agency released a video of coerced confessions from some of the detainees. It remains unclear under what conditions this footage was recorded, and no information has been provided regarding the detainees’ access to legal counsel or whether any pressure, threats, or coercion were applied to obtain these statements. Human rights organizations emphasize that such confessions lack legal validity and violate the fundamental rights of the accused.

These developments occur within the broader context of continued nationwide protests in Iran, which in recent days have taken place in dozens of cities and provinces, involving a heavy security presence, arrests of protesters, and reports of suppression.

Meanwhile, data obtained by Karun Human Rights Organization indicate that approximately 35 individuals were arrested on the first day of the protests in Abadan (Abadan) alone. Most of their cases have reportedly been transferred to the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), specifically to the News Headquarters 114 based on Secklin Street. These protesters are currently being held in Abadan Prison.
