Critical Condition of Mokhtar Al-Bushoukeh on Day 11 of Hunger Strike; Hamzeh Savari on Day 3 of Supportive Hunger Strike

According to reports received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization, Mokhtar Al-Bushoukeh, an Arab political prisoner from Ahwaz sentenced to 25 years in prison, has resumed his hunger strike on October 6, 2023, in protest against the failure of security officials to fulfill their promise to transfer him back to Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz. Today, Friday, October 13, 2023, marks the eleventh day of his hunger strike.

The health condition of this political prisoner is reported to be concerning due to multiple health issues, including kidney problems and a hernia. According to information received by Karoon, Al-Bushoukeh has been deprived of access to adequate medical care despite his need for medical attention. Continuing the hunger strike under such conditions could further jeopardize his health.

In solidarity with Al-Bushoukeh, Hamzeh Savari, another Arab political prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment and held in Gohardasht Prison in Karaj, began his hunger strike on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Today, Friday, marks the third day of his hunger strike.

Previously, an informed source had told the Karoon Human Rights Organization that Mokhtar Al-Bushoukeh suffers from pain and kidney issues and has been deprived of appropriate medical care despite his hernia condition. The organization expresses concern over the health status of Mokhtar Al-Bushoukeh and Hamzeh Savari and calls for immediate medical attention to their conditions and attention to their demands.
