Critical Condition of Mokhtar Al-Bushoukeh on Eighth Day of Hunger Strike; Promised Return to Sheiban Prison Remains Unfulfilled

According to reports received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization, Mokhtar Al-Bushoukeh, an Arab political prisoner from Ahwaz, is facing a critical health situation on the eighth day of his hunger strike, which he initiated in protest against the failure to fulfill the promise of transferring him from Arak Prison back to Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz on Monday, October 20, 2023.

An informed source has told Karoon that Al-Bushoukeh is suffering from pain and kidney issues, and despite having a hernia, he has been deprived of adequate medical care. Reports indicate that his transfer to Arak Prison on December 27, 2022, was carried out illegally under the orders of Amir Khalafian, the prosecutor of Ahwaz.

Previously, Al-Bushoukeh had ended his hunger strike after receiving a promise for his return to Sheiban, but the failure to fulfill this promise has compelled him to strike again. Following his transfer to Arak, he was sentenced to an additional 10 years and 1 day in prison on new charges of “communicating with political prisoners released from Sheiban Prison.” The continuation of his hunger strike and deprivation of treatment have raised concerns about his health and life.
