One Year of Uncertainty for Ayoub Heydari and Sadegh Sari in Sheiban Prison, Ahwaz

Reports received by the Karoon Human Rights Organization indicate that two Arab Sunni citizens, Ayoub Heydari (30 years old, married) and Sadegh Sari (29 years old, married, and father of two children), have been held in Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz under temporary detention for approximately one year without any resolution.

The cases of these two Sunni citizens are currently under review in the Second Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Ahwaz, presided over by Judge Kati. Despite nearly a year having passed since their arrest, this judicial authority has yet to issue a final verdict or convert their temporary detention into bail. The continuation of this situation not only imposes harsh prison conditions on the two citizens but also subjects their families, particularly the wives and young children of Sadegh Sari, to severe psychological and economic pressures.

The prolonged detention and uncertainty faced by Sunni citizens and activists in the Ahwaz region are systematic tools employed by the Iranian intelligence and judicial authorities to suppress religious freedoms and instill a climate of fear.

The Karoon Human Rights Organization considers the prolonged temporary detention and deprivation of the right to a fair trial to be a blatant violation of human rights standards and a clear instance of psychological torture against prisoners and their families. The organization expresses concern over the situation of Ayoub Heydari and Sadegh Sari in Sheiban Prison and calls for an end to the unlawful proceedings of the Second Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Ahwaz, the cessation of legal actions against religious minorities, and the immediate and unconditional release of these two citizens.
