The funeral procession for “Ahmad Baledi” the 20-year-old young man from Ahwaz who died after setting himself on fire in protest against the demolition of his family’s kiosk, took place today, Wednesday, 21 Aban (11 November), under strict security control.
Reports received by the Karun Human Rights Organization indicate that the presence of police and security forces along the routes leading to the ceremony was extensive, and authorities attempted to prevent any form of public gathering. Officers also tried to stop participants from performing traditional dances, yezleh, or other symbolic acts.
According to these reports, the body of Ahmad Baledi was buried in a cemetery near the Mahshour (Mahshahr)–Ahwaz road, close to the village of Madinat Boubald. Security forces insisted on conducting the burial immediately, without prior public notice or allowing a large gathering. The burial had originally been scheduled for Thursday, 22 Aban (12 November), but the Baledi family was coerced into changing the date to tonight after facing severe threats from Islamic Republic authorities.
Despite these restrictions, many citizens and local activists attended the ceremony.
Civil activists and local sources emphasize that the intense security measures and efforts to restrict symbolic public expressions were part of a broader attempt to contain public reaction to the tragic death of Ahmad Baledi.
