According to reports received on Saturday, October 31, 2023, two fuel carriers from the city of Falahiyeh (Shadgan) were shot at by Iranian security forces at the entrance of Abadan, resulting in their vehicle catching fire and them being burned alive.
The Telegram channel “Wave of Ahwaz” identified the victims as Hamid Shavardi (Khanafreh) and Haidar Shavardi (Khanafreh).
Local sources and eyewitnesses reported that officers from the Iranian police’s criminal investigation unit ordered a Peugeot 405 carrying several barrels of diesel to stop at the entrance of Abadan. After the vehicle failed to halt, an officer named Mohammadi opened fire on the car without adhering to the rules of engagement.
Following the shooting, the fuel-laden vehicle immediately caught fire, and both brothers tragically lost their lives in the flames.
Local informed sources emphasized that fuel carriers on these routes are often forced to pay bribes to police and security officers; however, Hamid and Haidar Shavardi had refused to pay bribes, which led the police officer to target them with lethal gunfire.
The structural poverty, imposed deprivation, and increasing unemployment in the region have compelled many citizens, including the youth of Falahiyeh, to engage in dangerous activities such as transporting and selling fuel to meet their families’ basic needs.
