In the early hours of Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the death sentence of a prisoner previously convicted of murder was carried out at Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz.
The identity of the prisoner executed at dawn has been confirmed by HRANA as Ali Mohammad Roshanfekr. He had earlier been arrested on charges of murder and was ultimately sentenced to death by a criminal court.
As of the time of this report, neither prison authorities nor relevant official bodies have issued any formal announcement regarding the execution.
According to the annual data compiled by the Statistics, Publications, and Documentation Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, during the period from October 10, 2024, to October 8, 2025, only 5.86% of executions carried out in Iranian prisons were officially acknowledged by state institutions or domestic media. In contrast, 94.14% of executions were conducted secretly or without public notification.
In many of these cases, the lack of transparency has resulted in prisoners being denied the right to a final visit with their families prior to execution.
